Kindergarten teachers are notorious for multitasking. One year another Kindergarten teacher walked next door to my classroom to ask me for instructions on an art project. She had seen it drying in the hall and wanted to give it a try with her class. Since her students were having rest time, she thought she could steal a few minutes to come over to my room to ask about it. While she walked down the hall, she reapplied her lipstick.

When she entered my classroom, my assistant and I both doubled over in laughter. I can't remember when I have laughed so hard. My students, who were resting, popped up and started laughing too. They had no idea what they were laughing at but they did not want to miss out on the fun. Get a mental picture in your head of the three year old that gets hold of Mommy's lipstick and applies it herself. Now substitute my teacher friend for the three year old. Talk about missing the mark. We all three were reduced to a pile of giggles along with my class who was laughing hysterically in the dark at they knew not what. We laughed so hard we cried. The assistant Principal picked that moment to enter the classroom. I guess he wanted to check out what all the ruckus was about. He took one look at her and he started laughing too.

Love to come to this blog. You have such funny stories to share.
Did you finally tell her what you were laughing at?

    Choices,

She was like the kids. She doubled over with laughter and had no clue what she was laughing at. We all had tears in our eyes as we finally guided her to a mirror.

    That's too funny!

I had a sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. Kramer, who could apply lipstick without looking. It was a bright pink that clashed with her red hair. I'm more talented at choosing flattering colors, but I can't apply lipstick without a mirror to save my life! If I did that as a sub, I'd never be called back.

Lol Connie....no it wasn't Tina! So there are other teachers out there who put their lipstick on while they walk down the hall? No way....lol

Blessings Veteran Kindergarten Teacher, I'm laughing all over just thinking about this...I was going to say imaging this but your words too clearly paint the picture. I was a Kindergarten teacher also and loved it. I do not remember any such "tall tales" from my years.

Thanks for visiting my other blog "Missions" which caused me to come here on just the right day for some laughter. It's good medicine. What
a fun place to be! I'm so glad everyone got a laugh otta it; including the AP!

I have no idea how you found my post on Missions but I'm so glad that you did. I've bookmarked you to enjoy.

Hilarious! I love this story. We've all had moments like this that were so humiliating and so funny at the same time.

A few years back, I colored on a fake mustache for a video my students were doing. I forgot to wipe it off and ended up going to a district meeting with it on.

I've been in her shoes before. That's just how I roll.

  20. halpey1 // March 7, 2010 at 9:42 AM

Oooh - this is precisely why I plant my butt in my chair in front of my class during quiet time and take my OWN quiet time... well this and the fact that I need a rest as badly as they do. :)

  21. VKT // March 7, 2010 at 12:49 PM

Lol John. That is too funny!Did somebody finally point it out to you?

  22. VKT // March 7, 2010 at 12:49 PM

Lol Tracie, I usually forget to wear the stuff so I haven't been there yet.

  23. VKT // March 7, 2010 at 12:51 PM

    Halpey,

I remember one year when my assistant fell asleep doing precisely that. The only reason we knew is that she snores. Have you ever seen an adult snore while sitting straight up? Too funny

  24. VKT // March 7, 2010 at 12:53 PM

Ah Debbie! I bet you have it down to an art form now! Thanks for commenting!

  25. Marla // March 7, 2010 at 1:27 PM
